What is Stump Grinding?
Stump grinding is the mechanical process of removing tree stumps after they have been felled, and it is a crucial step in the removal process. It is impossible to completely bring a tree to ground level without a stump remaining. If left untouched, stumps can take many years to naturally decompose and may introduce diseases that can harm nearby trees. In the meantime, they can be unsightly and pose a potential tripping hazard. Stumps often produce unattractive shoots for an extended period, which, if not regularly trimmed, can lead to the formation of an unsightly and rapidly spreading bush.
How We Can Help
Although it is an option to leave tree stumps in the ground after felling, this can result in issues with suckering, where new shoots sprout from the trunk and roots. While completely dead stumps won't produce suckers, they can serve as hosts for root diseases like honey fungus, making it unwise to leave them in place and take the associated risk.
So if you want to avoid pests, diseases and weeds and replant the ground where the tree used to be as soon as possible it is best to remove the stump.
